The special administration process was devised in 2011 and is intended to provide government funding to enable an insolvent energy firm to keep supplying its customers until a rival firm can be found to take over the business. This is unlikely to happen until the energy price cap is lifted because of the large gap between the price Bulb customers pay for energy and the cost of supplying that energy. Minimum wage to increase by 6.6%

Tue, 26/10/2021 The minimum wage for people over the age of 23 is to go up to £9.50 an hour from April 2022. This is a 6.6% increase. Premier League says Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not run Newcastle United as takeover deal finally completed

Fri, 08/10/2021 The long running saga surrounding the ownership of Newcastle United FC has come to an end, following the announcement that the Premier League has given the go ahead for Mike Ashley to sell the club to a consortium consisting of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media. The Premier League says it has been given “legally binding assurances” that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United FC. The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) says it “admires” the “desire and tenacity” shown by PIF in completing the deal. 96.7% of the NUST membership voted in favour of the takeover.

Tue, 05/10/2021 The bidding war for the UK’s fourth-biggest supermarket chain Morrisons has been won by the US private equity group Clayton, Dubilier and Rice (CD&R). CD&R’s bid of 287 pence per share was a penny higher than a rival bid from Fortress Investment Group and values the retailer at £7bn. CD&R is advised by Terry Leahy, the former chief executive of Tesco.

Thu, 30/09/2021 Govia has been stripped of the Southeastern railway franchise by the Government after failing to declare and return £25m of public funding. Govia is a joint venture between Go-Ahead and Keolis. Go-Ahead’s chief financial officer has resigned with immediate effect. Southeastern operates trains across London, Kent and East Sussex and will now be run by the Government’s Operator of Last Resort.

Tue, 21/09/2021 Five of the UK’s smaller energy companies have ceased trading in the last month. Between them Hub Energy, PfP Energy, MoneyPlus Energy, Utility Point and People’s Energy supplied more than 600,000 customers. The energy industry is in turmoil as a result of a massive increase in wholesale global gas prices which the suppliers are unable to pass on to consumers because of the Energy Price Cap.
